I wanted to do this review on a Sony MDR-IF240 not the MDR-IF240RK, I'm not to sure if there is a deference between the two.I wanted to get a wireless headset for my bedroom because when my wife goes to sleep I don't have to bother her sleep with the tv noise.I've also owned a wireless Sennheiser HDR60 and a wired Panasonic RP-HT970 Vibration Series Headphone. I had a Sennheiser which worked fine, but the rechargeable battery only lasted for about two days.I always had one recharging so I could swap it out, but it was still annoying to have it cut out in the middle of a program. After having it for about a year the charge wouldn't last anymore. When I saw how much a replacement battery was I immediately replaced it with a Panasonic. Because the Panasonic was wired, the sound was amazing. Especially the bass. And when I watched DVD's I was in awe. It was very comfortable. I loved the Panasonic. I would still be using using it if I didn't trip over the cable which broke it. lol The cord was an obstacle for my wife anytime she had to walk ac cross the room.
After reading reviews on the Sony MDR-IF240R I decided to wireless again. The Sony only needed batteries and wouldn't need constant replacing and that's wanted I wanted. In my home I have cordless phones and even a wireless PC network setup. So with the Sony having infrared I didn't have to worry about going room to room and having interference. I only needed it for the TV and I was wiling to accept the decent in not great sound quality. This Sony wireless headset met all my needs. What I decided to do is instead of using the rechargeable batteries that it came with I went and purchased AAA batteries. I put in the AAA batteries and I was able to use the wireless Sony headset for over two weeks of constant use.
The Sony wireless headset looks pretty cheap because they are plastic. The sony wireless headset is quit comfortable but the one thing I don't like is when I tilt my head they start to slip off. It's because of the foam cushions it what makes it quit flimsy. One thing Sony should have done was make a longer cable so it would allow more flexibility in where to place the base. The sound quality is fine but after having the Panasonic there is no comparison. The Panasonic was corded and that's why it sounded so good. I do miss hearing the great sound quality of the Panasonic when I watched a DVD. It felt as though I was at the movie theater.
The Sony wireless headset does a great feature I like and it's when I can get up from the bed, I can walk all the way to the kitchen and still hear the program i am watching. I will say this, sometimes if there is something between the headphone and the transmitter the sound can cut out. Others have talked about the hissing sound while watching a program but that is an easy fix. Just turn the volume up. On the Sennheiser there was a tuning control, which I had to fiddle with in order to receive a signal, but the Sony doesn't have or need one.
In conclusion, this headphone met all my expectations, the price was reasonable and I would recommend it to others until someone comes out without something that has better sound quality and excellent battery life.
